Today, nearly everyone uses computer technology
at work. For young people entering the workforce, computer
literacy is essential. Advanced technical skills can increase
their readiness for living wage jobs. Unfortunately, many
lower-income youth lacking access to technology are left
on the wrong side of the "digital divide."
PYB's
Computer Technology (CT) Program helps at-risk young people
gain solid footing in the digital economy. Over the period
of one year, Computer Tech students gain expertise in a wide variety of technical areas. By the end of the program they have competency in video and audio production, assembly and upgrade of desktop computers, hardware troubleshooting, web development, graphic design, digital photography, and print media production.
Computer Technology students use their skills to support their community by providing free and low-cost web development and desktop publishing services to non-profit organizations and schools, as well as refurbished
computer equipment for low-income families. PYB's students
provide technical tutoring, technical documentation, and
technology classes, improving community access to computer
technology and the Internet.
